RAINBOWS “Bowled over” by fun and friendship
A record setting number of new children are joining our Rainbows for all God’s Children program, and they recently had a very special welcoming. In all, seven new children will be participating in the program for the 2018 Spring-session.
The newest members of the RAINBOWS family got off to a fun filled start at the annual Winter Bowling Party, held February 11th. For the first time ever new children were invited to join the party where they had the opportunity to meet the current RAINBOWS children. They all had a wonderful time bowling, playing arcade games, and laughing together.
That sense of togetherness was most encouraging while observing how quickly bonds were forming among the children. It was all in an atmosphere of fun, and most inspiring acceptance. That atmosphere of acceptance is just what RAINBOWS offers to the youngsters who participate in this special program, as they learn together how to navigate through loss. When faced with a loss, many children put on a brave front for the adults in their lives, hiding their fears and concerns.
That’s where the support program comes in “guiding the children through life’s storms”, as the RAINBOWS motto goes, giving children the coping skills needed to deal with loss and changes in their family life, while offering healing for their pain.
All are welcome to RAINBOWS who suffered any type of significant loss in their lives. Children from Kindergarten through High School attend the program. They are placed in levels based on age, and lead by trained Facilitators. A parent group is also held at the same time.
RAINBOWS is open to all faiths and denominations, and the program is completely free of charge. We are proud to host this program here at Notre Dame Parish, and are currently the only site in all of Nassau County to hold a RAINBOWS program. The Spring Sessions are meeting now through April in the Notre Dame School Cafeteria Sunday Mornings 10am to 11:15.
