Flood In Kerala, India
The severe rain, flood and mud slides in my home state Kerala, which is known as ‘God’s Own Country’ is today struggling to cope up with the devastation caused by the flood. The death toll is 350 and it will go up. There is an 880G loss because of this devastation. Air, road, train, and all means of transportation has come to a standstill and 70% of the people are affected by this destruction. This is the greatest flood since the state of Kerala was born, in 1956, the elders say.
An estimated 800,000 people have taken shelter in some 4000 relief camps across Kerala. Thousands of rescuers, the military, police and fire force are engaged in rescue efforts for the last 2 weeks.
The flood in Kerala has gotten worldwide attention. Pope Francis prayed for the flood victims of Kerala on last Sunday’s audience at Vacation. All news media including CNN, ABC and BBC covered the flood in Kerala, because it was so overwhelming.
Our CMI Congregation, including our Jyothidarsana Counseling Centre has opened shelters for the flood victims. Special prayers were done at our church during Adoration time on Monday. As St. Paul says “we all are members of the mystical body of Christ. When one part of the body is suffering we all should feel that suffering”. Many people shared their sympathy and prayers to me, because my brother’s house also flooded to 10 feet height inside. Thank God all my family is safe.
The good news is, the rain has stopped and flood water is receding. Lot of clean-up and rehabilitation works on the way. Please continue to pray for victims of the destruction and I am sure that you will do it.
God bless… See you at Church…
